Now, in offices, more and more employees tend to use balance balls instead of chairs in order to maintain their health.

↓

Recently, in the workplace, the number of employees who use balance balls rather than chairs for their health has been increasing.

now → recently, these days
office → workplace
instead of → rather than
more and more → the number of…is increasing

要約は感想文ではないので、"I think"や”In my opinion”などは不要です。

The Australian Minister for the Environment and Heritage, Senator Ian Campbell, has praised supermarket shoppers and operators for cutting three billion plastic bags from circulation during the past two years. He said a report compiled by the Australian National Retailers Association, representing major supermarkets, showed that by the end of last year supermarkets had reduced their annual use of lightweight, single-use bags by 45 percent compared with 2002.

"This is an enormous achievement by shoppers and supermarket management and a clear demonstration of a behavioral change by thousands of Australians," Senator Campbell said. "The cutback means fewer bags in the litter stream. The goal must be to stop plastic bags from getting into the litter stream and spoiling Australia’s environment."

The Senator says the result came from entirely voluntary action – "no regulations, no levies or additional costs to shoppers. I am delighted that the major supermarkets are committed to achieving the 50 percent goal by the end of this year. I also share their view that the development of a viable degradable bag to replace existing lightweight plastic ones is a key to achieving further significant reductions."

Plastics have been widely used in Australia in the past few decades, but environmentalists say plastic bags have had a devastating impact on the nation's natural environment. According to Clean Up Australia, plastic bags can take between 20 and 1000 years to break down. Despite their recyclable nature, an estimated 6.67 billion or 36,700 tons of plastic bags are disposed of in landfill sites throughout Australia each year.

The joint efforts of both supermarket operators and shoppers in Australia resulted in a significant reduction of plastic wastes compared to the previous years. They have proven that change is possible if we all work together to achieve a certain goal, which is to put an end to the damages to the environment brought about by plastic bags. To add more to the good news, Senator Campbell further states that everybody’s commitment is actually voluntary and mutual: to attain at least half of their set goal before the year ends. Essentially, more efforts will develop more remarkable results.

“To add more to the good news,”を使うことで、上手く情報を付け足しています。

In Australian supermarkets, a joint effort of shoppers and retailers has managed to cut back the number of plastic bags in the litter stream. The 2004 figure is almost half that of 2002. Senator Ian Campbell, Minister for the Environment and Heritage, is excited about the behavioral change and especially the fact that it was all voluntary. Australians will continue to bring down the number of lightweight, disposable bags by developing an alternative that would easily break down, instead of staying between 20 and 1000 years in landfills.

According to an official report, Australian supermarkets were able to reduce the use of plastic bags by 45 percent. The Prime Minister for the Environment and Heritage expressed his admiration for such an achievement and encouraged both supermarkets chains and their customers to keep advancing in this regard so that a 50 percent plastic bag reduction can be accomplished by the end of this year. An enormous amount of plastic has been used in Australia in the past few decades, which has led to a natural crisis in the country. Hence, the necessity for these eco-friendly activities.

Prime Minister for the Environment and Heritage(環境遺産大臣)"がキーパーソンとして登場しています。
