I would like to know your opinion concerning the Japanese economy.

I received shocking mail just now, as usual, once a year. The documents tell me how much my household needs to pay for national healthcare insurance (NHI) premiums. Over one million yen (6,344 dollars), the maximum premium, is imposed on my family. The insurance premiums for a single year are determined by the previous year's income and have a limit. Roughly speaking, the maximum premium is imposed on income over ten million yen. NHI should be abolished, and medical savings accounts should be implemented. The NHI system has so many wastes.

1. You can also say, 'As usual, I receive shocking mail annually, and this year was no exception.'
That must be tough. I hope some alterations will be made. Please tell me about some of the wasteful practices within the system.

That's a good question. Government meddling usually creates a bureaucratic system between patients and medical providers and complicated regulations. The problem is the government's monopoly, and there is no choice besides NHI. Private insurance can't be replaced entirely with it. The national healthcare system is headed for disaster because of demographic trends. However, immigrants shouldn't be accepted readily to cover our budgets. They are not our property. Whenever I talk about this issue, I am often portrayed as misers who care nothing for the suffering of their fellow citizens.

1 and 2. The commas (,) separate the clauses.
3. 'A miser' shows what you look like.
4. 'Doesn't care' shows what you seem to feel.
5. As you are talking about yourself in third person 'her' is used.
That is indeed a complex issue. Based on what you stated, it is clear that there are several contributing factors leading to the decline of the healthcare system. Please elaborate a bit on how demographic trends influence this matter. For instance, are you referring to issues like the aging population?

Totally. The number of younger taxpayers for each retiree has been declining, so we won't be able to sustain the system due to a lack of resources. To maintain the system, taxation should be increased, and national spending should be reduced. The former is unrealistic. We should only accept skilled or wealthy immigrants who don't need to depend on the government, not simple laborers. The latter is possible by abolishing the NHI. The issue of the aging population isn't worth issue spending money on because people die sooner or later, so it's naturally solved.

1. 'Issue' is not necessary and can be removed.
  • monetary expansion(金融緩和)
  • inflation rate(インフレ率)
  • budget deficits(財政赤字)
  • fiscal policy(財政政策)
  • sustainability(持続可能性)
  • It is too early to tell whether or not Abenomics is working.(アベノミクスが成功してるかを判断するにはまだ早い。)
  • The first arrow, monetary expansion, has succeeded and Japan is now out of deflation, a condition which had lasted for more than 15 years.(最初の矢である金融緩和は成功し、日本は15年も続いたデフレから脱却した。)
  • The inflation rate has not reached the target of 2% and has fallen a little bit recently. However, at least the rate is up from zero.(インフレ率は目標の2%には達しておらず、最近は少し下がっています。しかし、少なくともゼロからは上昇しています。)
  • The tax increase is part of fiscal policy, it was established in order to reduce the budget deficit.(増税は財政政策の一部であり、財政赤字を削減するために設置された。)
  • These efforts may lead to a credible plan for fiscal stability.(こうした取り組みが、財政安定化のための信頼できる計画につながる可能性があります。)
