自己紹介
Hi there! My name is Odelia!!

I am a child of Africa, to be precise South-Africa!

South-Africa has eleven official languages, of which I am fluent in both English and Afrikaans.

Currently I am a second-year student studying towards a degree for senior and higher education at the University of South-Africa (UNISA). I will be majoring in English and Information Technology and have thus far completed second year level English. I am familiar with IELTS and TOEFL structures and enjoy empowering students to achieve their academic goals. I also have teaching experience as an educator for grade four students at Lydenburg Christian Private School (Entheos). Working with the students was an amazing learning experience for me. Due to the fact that these student’s native language was Zulu or Sepedi, communicating fluently in English was not always possible. However, it presented me with the opportunity to experiment with different teaching styles and using visual demonstrations to bridge the language gap when it occurred. It has taught me that you as an educator learn just as much from your students as they do from you!

Some of my hobbies include taking photos, horse riding, reading novels, watching anime and learning new languages.

Meeting new people is one of my favourite things to do. I love going to new places and being from South-Africa I am fortunate to be surrounded by a range of different cultures, races, languages as well as customs. I strongly believe that with every new person you meet, you also meet a new part of yourself, because with every person you have a different relationship.

In 2017, I had the great privilege of visiting Scotland for five months and the experience was truly enriching. I had the opportunity to see new places and learn how people co-exist and go about their daily lives in a system that was not like the one I grew up with. Meeting people from all walks of life that are from different places right around the world. However, what was perhaps even more rewarding was the fact that I was able to communicate with people, whether they were from Scotland, England, Poland, or even the Netherlands, all bridging the gap through English despite all of them having various native languages!

Like many foreigners, what first got me interested in Japan and the Japanese language and culture was anime. From there it only grew as I began to learn more about the country and its people. What really stood out to me was the various customs that are centuries old that are still being implemented even today. I admire how the Japanese people respect and remember their heritage.

I have started learning Japanese, however the process is a bit slow as I am only now doing it as a hobby and because the Japanese language and alphabet is so vast, but I like the challenge and look forward to speaking and understanding the language better.

I would love to visit Japan one day to see the Sakura trees and order a bowl of ramen!

I look forward to sharing this journey with you!!
