寺院の表門の左右に置かれている事の多い仁王像ですが、彼らの鋭い目つきや頑健な体つきを見て、気持ちが引き締まる経験がある方も多いと思います。一般的に仁王像と呼ばれる彼らは金剛力士像と言い、口をあけている方が阿行、口をふさいでいる力士像が吽行と言います。その様子から「仁王立ち」という言葉も生まれ、力強さの象徴としても日本人に親しい存在です。
