What do you think about Japan's efforts to have a clean environment?

The Japanese government has been tackling the issue by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. They have succeeded in doing it, for five consecutive years since 2014. They have set the goal for reducing emissions by 26% by the year 2030. They also declare that they will reduce the amount by 80% by 2050. (These percentages are the comparison to the total volume of the gas emissions in 2013.)

That is wonderful. How did Japan manage to reduce greenhouse gas emissions? Which methods did it use?

The government has taken measures by setting up seven sectors. The main sectors are industrial, households, and transportation. Each of them has taken unique measurements. For example, the household sector is prevailing in LED lights and introducing 5.3 million's household batteries. The energy conversion sector is promoting renewable energy power plants instead of thermal ones. The other sector is maintaining forests and revegetating in urban areas.

It all seems very well organized. What else do you think needs to be done in Japan? Do you think all this effort is enough?

I am not sure that this effort is good enough for reaching the goal. So I think each of us needs to be aware of this issue, and do something we can do in daily life. For example, using public transportation, having eco-bags, and buying stuff made from recycled materials.

I couldn't agree more. Individual effort is important to decrease negative effects on the environment. What are other countries in the region doing to reduce emissions?

I searched for the present situations in Korea and China. Seoul is the city that is releasing the largest amount of gas. President Moon will conduct "Green New Deal policy" during his terms. The contents are the installation of renewable energy, collecting carbon taxes, withdrawal from investing in domestic and international coal industries, promoting employment in green industries. In addition, China also declared that it will reduce emissions to zero by 2060. However, Xi Jinping didn't specify how to achieve the goal. China is a leading provider of renewable energy sources. However, it is promoting a coral power generation project.

You are very knowledgeable about this. That is good. What do you think should be done about countries who aren't doing much to preserve the environment?

I just googled it. They should set an International equivalent standard for the reduction to every country first. The next step is to establish a law. The law requires all countries to pay taxes if there is any country that is against the standard.
