I thought Chapter 3 was a passage for English reading comprehension, about the history of medieval Europe. I don't understand why the answer to question 2 is A, so could you explain it to me?

I might have misunderstood the scope of the homework.
Question 2 asked for the name of the capital of the Byzantine Empire.
I thought it was Constantinople, but why is Istanbul the correct answer?
