Did you take the Beginners Khmer Class at the International Student Center? Not all local people speak English. I ordered chicken with fried rice at a restaurant near the Royal Palace, but a server brought me sukiyaki. I ordered, pointing out the picture on the menu, though. I thought the way I ordered was wrong, so I gave up and ate it. Although it was delicious, it cost 30 dollars, even though chicken with fried rice was 5 dollars.

The server looked like a teenage girl, not yet twenty. If I complained, the owner would scold her because sukiyaki uses expensive ingredients. I thought it was destiny to have sukiyaki that day and said nothing. The sukiyaki was different from the Japanese version and had no raw egg. Luckily, I don't rather like raw eggs. Next, I'd like to eat a traditional Khmer dish called amok there.

Thank you. I don't have any pictures of it, but we can see many pictures online. The appearance of amok is similar to curry, but it's not spicy; it's mild. It is usually served in a banana leaf cup or coconut shell. There are several types of amok, such as chicken or fish amok. Fish amok represents Cambodian cuisine. "Amok" means steaming some food in a banana leaf in Khmer. After marinating river fish in a paste called kroeung and coconut cream, it is wrapped up in banana leaves and steamed. Fantastic! It doesn't smell fishy at all.
